What to Send an Aussie Living Overseas This Christmas
Around one in every seven of our Christmas orders goes overseas, mostly to the United Kingdom and New Zealand. Almost every one is the same story: someone in Australia sending a bit of home to a son, daughter, sister or mate who has moved away.
If that is you, here is what we have learned about sending gifts abroad.
What makes a good gift to post overseas
- Light and flat. International postage is priced by weight and size. A stubby holder weighs next to nothing and folds flat, so it keeps postage down.
- Unbreakable. Parcels get handled a lot between Melbourne and Manchester. Neoprene does not care.
- Customs-friendly. No food, no liquids, nothing that needs declaring beyond a simple gift.
- Something they cannot buy there. This is the big one. Homesickness is about the small things.
Why a stubby holder hits the spot
Outside Australia, stubby holders are a rarity, and that is exactly the point. Pulling one out in a pub garden in Clapham or at a barbecue in Auckland is a small, unmistakable piece of home.
